This test, administered and scored by classroom teachers, measures skills such a oral language, social readiness, concepts in print, letter and word recognition, number sense, and letter naming and initial sound fluency. DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)
The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of standardized, individually administered measures of early literacy development. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of pre-reading and early reading skills.
This test is administered in Grades K-2, three times each year, at Entrance, Mid-Year, and Exit. The test is administered and scored by faculty. The district data warehouse stores the raw score for each fluency tested and the number of concepts mastered at each benchmark period.
District-Wide Exit Exams
District-wide exit exams are administered in grades K-12 at the end of a trimester or grading period as a means to assess a students ability regarding previously learned skills and concepts. These exams help to identify the current level at which students are able to recall those skills and concepts learned throughout the prior trimester/term. Results identify both strengths and weaknesses in student learning. Exit exams also measure individual and classroom growth and forecast success on standardized tests. Tests are administered and scored by faculty. The district data warehouse stores the percent score for every trimester/term assessment. District-Wide Writing Prompts
A writing prompt gives definition and direction to an assigned writing topic. It can be as simple as a general idea, statement, or question, or as complex as the position for a thesis paper. Writing prompts are designed to help get students started with and maintain focus during their writing assignments.
District-wide writing prompts are administered in Grades 2-12, once each trimester/grading period. The scoring system for the assessment is based on the Indiana State Rubric for 'Language in Use' and 'Writing Applications'. This test is administered and scored by faculty. The district data warehouse stores the rubric scores from both skills for each benchmark period.
STAR Reading and STAR Math
STAR Reading and Math web-based software, produced by Renaissance Learning, assesses students reading and math progress in grades 1-12. Students complete a computer-adaptive test in less than 15 minutes, and immediately receive norm-referenced scores. Assessing with STAR helps to identify the reading and math levels of each student, determine placement, measure individual and classroom growth, and forecast results on standardized tests. Scores include scaled scores, grade equivalents, percentile ranks, and normal curve equivalents.
This test is administered online in Grades 1-12, three times each year, at Entrance, Mid-Year, and Exit. The district data warehouse stores the scale score and grade equivalent results from each benchmark period.
