Transportation Services

Welcome to PTS Transportation

Mission

The Portage Township Schools Transportation Department is dedicated to providing students and staff the safest and most efficient means of transportation possible.

What we Accomplish

During the 2016-2017 school year, we transported over 8400 students to and from school daily. We transport to our eight elementary schools, two middle schools and the high school within the Portage Township School District. We also transport to numerous schools outside of our district on a daily basis. This includes: Morgan, Chesterton, Wheeler, Boone Grove, Hobart and Valparaiso.

We also share bi-annual transportation to the Indiana School for the Deaf and Blind in Indianapolis on a weekly basis. This means that PTS Transportation Services travel over 7000 miles per day. This equates to over 2.6 million pick-ups and drop-offs as well as over 1.2 million miles traveled by our drivers per year. This mileage does not include the hundreds of field-trips and athletic trips around the region and state. To accomplish this, we have a fleet of 104 buses maintained by four mechanics and managed by an office staff of seven people.

In addition to the transportation of our students, the Transportation Department also manages and maintains the fuel site for municipal vehicles in Portage Township. We dispense nearly 125,000 gallons of fuel annually.
