Portage Township School Registration Process

During the school year, all new students register at the individual schools according to the grade level your child/children are in.  Children attend the local neighborhood schools.  To determine which school your child or children will attend, please visit our Transportation page (click here) to input your local Portage address on the Versa-Tran Routing system.  It will then give you the elementary and/or middle school that your child/children will attend.  All students in grades 9-12 will attend Portage High School. 
 
During the summer, PTS holds registration for the upcoming school year during a two-week period usually in July for all students (returning and new), all grade levels (K-12) including those who attended Kindergarten Roundup in April at one location -- usually at Portage High School.  Be sure to watch the website for complete details beginning the end of May and first of June for the upcoming dates, times, and location. 

Kindergarten Round Up in the Portage Township Schools is usually held in April at each elementary school for children who will be five years of age on or before August 1st of the current year.  Please watch the announcement section of the website's home page for details.  Find the 2011 details of Kindergarten Round Up by clicking here or selecting Kindergarten Round up in the list on the left.

Items for Registering your child/children in the Portage Township Schools

To move through the registration process quickly, please download, print and complete these forms before you arrive at the school. Most forms are available in two versions; one as a MS Word document as indicated by ms word logo and the other as an Adobe PDF document pdf logo . Choose which one is appropriate for you to complete. Don't forget to bring them with you.

Please also read the section on PTS Residency Requirments and bring those necessary forms with you to the school. 

New students to PTS should complete forms in the "Forms for New Students" and all "Health Forms" sections.

RESIDENCY CHECK
 
All families will be required to prove their residency within the Portage Township Schools boundaries. Why? We want to ensure that Portage Schools are serving students who legally reside within our boundaries or who are tuition students.

Please have these items with you to register for the residency check:

  • A copy of your drivers license with your current address
  • At least one of the following:
    • If you own your home a current mortgage statement and current utility bill OR
    • If you rent your home a current rental receipt from your landlord and a current utility bill OR
    • Your vehicle registration with current address listed on the form and a current utility bill
GUARDIANSHIP
INFORMATION
  • Custody papers/court orders if needed for divorced, grandparents, or foster parents
HEALTH
INFORMATION
  • Health records for new students
  • Immunization records for all new students and/or Kindergarten students
  • Any necessary changes for current students
STUDENT
INFORMATION
  • Address changes
  • Emergency contact information including phone numbers
  • Parents' E-mail address
