The computer lab consists of 32 PC computers and a video projector for demonstrations. All of the classrooms at Jones Elementary School have 3 PC computers. All PCs have full Internet access and are connected to the schools Local Area Network (LAN) and the school districts Wide Area Network (WAN). All PCs are able to print to 4 laser printers. A color laser printer and black laser printer are located in the computer lab with a black laser printer located in the office and library media center. Scanners and digital cameras are also available for use. Each classroom has a large monitor which is connected to the teacher's desktop computer. This is available for instructional viewing from computer software, the Internet, and DVD viewing. Seven portable computer labs are available for use. One lab consists of 24 wireless Dell laptops and another has 30 Dell netbooks. We have recently received one 30 Dell netbook lab for each grade 1 through 5. They all have network accessibility and a separate printer is attached to the laptop portable lab. The classroom teacher may check out a lab for a day to use with their students in their classroom. The Internet can also be accessed for instruction and research. A full-time Computer Coordinator is on staff and available at all times during the school day for both the Computer Lab and classrooms. The coordinator is also responsible for keeping our Jones Elementary Web Site up to date with news, current activities, picture gallery, and the calendar. Classes are assigned time in the computer lab each week. Kindergarten has one 25 minute session, grades one and two have two 25 minute sessions, and grades three through five have one 50 minute session. Open computer lab time is also available for those classes working on projects.
