SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS


If you are interested in applying to be a substitute teacher for Portage Township Schools, please contact the Human Resources Office at 219-764-6015.

Background checks are required for substitute teachers. In order to share background checks with other school corporations resulting in a savings to you, the sub, please complete the process for the check.

An employment background check is $30.85 (Non Licensed)/ $34.80 (Licensed Teacher). Safe Hiring Solutions is the company that will be completing the background check. As part of the process, they will also collect the fee. You may pay by Visa, MasterCard, a credit or debit card.

Requirements:
*Official Transcripts showing one of the following:
        1.  Degree
        2.  60 Credit hours or more
        3.  Minimum 30 credit hours and Verification of at least one year of successful work expierence with children within the last three years.

The daily rate of pay for a Substitute Teacher is $70.00.  If  you hold a current Teaching License the daily rate of pay is $80.00.

It is the responsibility of the substitute teacher to apply for and keep current the Teacher License or Substitute Teaching Certificate. To apply online for a Substitute certificate go to http://License.doe.in.gov  Please bring in a copy of the certificate as soon as you receive the certificate.
