Air Quality Flag Program

Ozone and particle pollution effect the quality of the air outside, and these pollutants can be especially harmful to those with asthma, those with heart or lung disease, older adults, children and teens, and people who are active outside. Ozone and particle pollution may come from a variety of sources, including motor vehicles, factories, commercial products, wood-burning stoves, forest fires, and fuel combustion processes, to name a few. These pollutants can cause a wide range of health side effects, from simple eye, nose, and throat irritation, to asthma attacks, to congestive heart failure, and beyond.

Knowing the air quality each day can help all of us be more aware and take better steps to protect ourselves on poor air quality days. Portage Township Schools is currently in the process of equipping each school with a set of air quality flags to alert our citizens to each day's Air Quality Index. You can also check here to find each day's air quality.

What color is your air today?
  • Green = GOOD
  • Yellow = MODERATE
  • Orange = UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS
  • Red = UNHEALTHY
  • Purple = VERY UNHEALTHY

You child's school will take the proper precautions as a result of each day's air quality.
