Portage High School has been named a 2023–24 Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School! This honor was given to only a few hundred high schools in the country and recognizes schools that offer strong and exciting STEM learning opportunities for students.
PLTW is a national program that helps students in PreK–12 learn about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). It reaches millions of students and teachers in over 12,000 schools across the U.S.
“Our Project Lead The Way courses help students explore careers in math, science, and engineering,” said Dr. Amanda Alaniz, superintendent of Portage Township Schools. “This award shows how dedicated our Portage High School staff is to giving students a high-quality education.”
To earn the PLTW Distinguished School title, Portage High School had to meet several requirements during the 2022–23 school year. These included offering multiple PLTW courses, having many students take PLTW classes, and making sure students from all backgrounds have access to the program.
“We’re proud to honor Portage High School for giving students great learning experiences and making sure all students have the chance to take PLTW courses,” said Dr. David Dimmett, PLTW President and CEO. “This award celebrates their work to help students build the skills they need for school, future careers, and life.”
PLTW high school programs help students get ready for the future—not only by teaching STEM topics but also by building teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Portage High School is proud to be part of a national group of schools and organizations working together to give students inspiring and hands-on learning experiences.
