The Portage High School boys soccer team is going to Kick Childhood Cancer in honor of their friend, Aubrey, at their upcoming game.
Aubrey Night: Kick Childhood Cancer will honor PHS student Aubrey Konchar, who passed away this year after battling cancer, at their game on Wednesday, September 6 at 6:30 p.m. They will have a donation jar available for guests to donate to Aubrey’s family.
Additionally, the soccer team is welcoming Dirk Cushing, who is taking on the Great Cycle Challenge this month in honor of Aubrey. He will be riding 638 miles this month in an attempt to raise $30,000 for childhood cancer and will be at the game to talk about his efforts and shave his head for the first time since his ride last year.
Dirk is being joined at the game by Lucas and Samuel, two brothers who each went through their own cancer journey. Dirk is riding this year to celebrate them as well. Lucas and Samuel are students at Union Township School Corporation and are the sons of a PTS staff member.
Dirk will be encouraging fans to donate on Kick Cancer’s Butt day on September 13 when his corporate sponsors will match all donations. Funds raised through his website are donated to organizations that support childhood cancer research. Donations can be made at https://greatcyclechallenge.com/riders/DirkCushing.
